A CPU stress test runs at 100% load to find the limits of your system. A CPU load test holds a specific percentage — useful when you want to measure power draw at 50% TDP, test thermal performance at a sustained moderate load, or simulate a specific workload profile.
Power consumption scales roughly with CPU load, though not linearly. Most modern CPUs draw disproportionately more power near 100% load due to boost clocks. Testing at 50–75% load gives a more representative picture of everyday performance.
